WhatsApp has started rolling out WhatsApp Plus to a limited group of iPhone users, adding a paid layer to an app long defined by being free. Meta is testing whether users will pay for customization while keeping core messaging untouched.

Early access users are seeing a monthly price of about EUR 2.49 in Europe, with regional pricing likely to vary. The subscription adds premium stickers, alternate app icons, color themes, extra ringtones, and up to 20 pinned chats instead of three.

Matt Navarra summed up the shift in an X post, writing that WhatsApp was “rolling out its paid subscription called WhatsApp Plus to a limited number of iOS users.” The signal is clear. This is a revenue test dressed as personalization.

For Meta, WhatsApp Plus opens a new monetization lane without charging for chat itself. For users, it is an early sign that free messaging may stay intact while premium extras start multiplying. Berrit Media will be watching what comes next.
